Our proven, well-balanced program will accompany students throughout their early French Immersion years and ensure they build up solid language foundations and enjoy long-term academic progress.
Successful vocabulary building and consolidation is based on systematic memorization with visual cue cards and regular review.
This component is based on the GB+ Beauchemin graded readers and allows students to gradually develop their reading and writing skills in a structured way. The instructor encourages systematic memorization of new words and provides clarification of the grammar or conjugation tenses featured in each story. Depending on your child’s grade and after a short evaluation, the instructor will suggest a level to start from.
A typical session unfolds as follows:
It is essential your child should have a good understanding of the vocabulary, structures and language concepts identified in a series of readers before moving on to the next level.
Verbs represent a key component for students in French Immersion from early grades. The verb system in French being complex and in many respects quite different from the English verb system, it is perceived as tricky to teach by teachers in French Immersion programs and often generates the most errors and confusion for young learners.
This component helps FI students familiarize themselves gradually with the main verb patterns, high-frequency verbs, modals and auxiliary verbs through regular practice and simple explanations. The teacher will put the emphasis on key notions such as the infinitive vs. conjugated form, the identification of the root / ending in the conjugation process, pronominal vs. non-pronominal verbs, basic tenses (présent, passé composé, futur proche, futur simple) and the imperative mood.
The instructor will always use simple, plain language to introduce new concepts and will only present students with a short selection of helpful ‘technical’ tool-terms.
